What You Need To Know About Eco Friendly Architects

Are you wondering what eco friendly architects do? They design eco friendly houses. These houses are not only environmentally friendly and energy saving, they are also good to look at.

How to Design an Eco Friendly House

You should design a house such that it’s situated in an area where it’s able to take full advantage of light. You should place the house in an area that is protected from the elements that might damage the house. As an architect you need to consider the direction and slope of the roof that will accommodate the solar panels.

To provide shade from intense summer sun you should design the house to have wide eaves to overhang the walls. To shelter the home from storms and chill you should ensure that the walls are thick and have fewer windows.

When planning the house ensure that you evaluate typical runoff, grade and soil type. You should use the roof to collect rainwater. When it comes to landscaping you should use material that is draught-resistant. This to save the water that would be spent on irrigation.

To ensure that there’s plenty of light in the house you should design interior spaces around adjacent terraces or sheltered courtyard. You should also factor day lighting into interior wall placement and windows.

To save on air conditioning you should take advantage of the airflow in the house. If possible you should design the house in such a way that you won’t use the air conditioning.

You should use local materials in order to avoid incurring transportation energy costs. You should aim at getting supplies from sustainable sources such as wood that has been certified by the forest Stewardship council.

If you have to use any other material you should ensure that isn’t made from toxic products. When it comes to insulation you should insulate your house with tech-forward products such as rolls of recycled blue jeans.

The door and windows should be energy efficient. Kitchen appliances, water heaters and bathroom fixtures should also be energy efficient. If your client is planning of having a swimming pool, you should consider a natural outdoor pool.

Conclusion

This is how you should design an eco friendly house. Even though it’s recommended that you use eco friendly products such as recycled products, you shouldn’t use low quality materials. This is to ensure that the house lasts for a long time. Using high quality materials also ensures that the house looks elegant.

Build Your Own Affordable, Eco-Friendly House

What is the best way to build a low-cost home that doesn’t harm the planet? Most materials such as concrete and steel are highly processed and transported long distances, making them unaffordable to millions who are in need of housing. These high-tech materials also cause a great deal of harm to the environment. The answer is to utilize locally available, low-impact natural building materials such as earth, stone, straw and small diameter wood. This article explores several methods of using earth and sustainably harvested wood to cut housing costs to rock-bottom prices. And because the techniques are user-friendly, they are ideal for do-it-yourselfers.

Earthbag building: Like other earth building methods, earthbag building is simple to learn and extremely low cost. It has evolved from the military’s use of building durable, blast and bullet resistant structures with sandbags for 100 years. Modern-day builders are using the same basic process of filling and stacking bags to build beautiful houses, offices, shops, schools and orphanages. Earthbag buildings are resistant to mold, fire, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, insects and rodents.

Since the main building material is earth, which is often free or very low cost if delivered, structures can be built literally dirt-cheap. No expensive equipment is needed. Most people already have the basic tools around their home – shovels, buckets, garden hose and ladder. The building process is so simple that unskilled workers can learn each step of construction just by watching for a minute. Earthbag building is extremely adaptable and can be used to build almost any shape imaginable, including domes, vaults, roundhouses, or more typical square or rectangular designs.

Small diameter wood: U.S. forests are currently overcrowded and prone to forest fires. Millions of acres are destroyed each year to fires and disease. Gleaning small trees from the forest in a sustainable manner actually improves the health of the forest and reduces forest fires. With an inexpensive firewood permit (about $20), anyone can obtain wood for building their home. Most of this wood usually goes up the chimney to heat homes, but it is much more valuable when turned into useful products with a long life. All the wood for a house can be obtained this way at much lower cost than buying dimension lumber from a building supply center.

One option is peeling the bark off and using them in the round for pole frames. Wood in the round is much stronger than sawn lumber and requires less processing. With a portable mill or chainsaw attachment, do-it-yourselfers can also mill their own wood for beams, joists, studs, trusses, purlins, window and door frames, trim, cabinets and furniture. Where I live, builders are culling standing dead trees (sound wood) from the forest so as to avoid the time and effort of seasoning the wood. In addition, using sustainably harvested wood as described here is more aesthetically pleasing than conventional stud walls covered with sheetrock. The beauty of the wood is left exposed, honoring the tree from which it came.

Tamped earth floors: Traditional poured earth floors can last for many centuries, thereby saving a small fortune on wood floor framing and replacement of carpet and linoleum every 15 years. Earth floors look like leather once finished and are extremely beautiful. (They’re being used in trendy, custom homes.) However, poured earth floors take a long time to dry, making them impractical in all but hot, dry climates.

Tamped earth floors use less water and dry much faster. These floors can typically be walked on one or two days after installing. The building process involves screening road base or other appropriate soil through 3/8″ mesh. This mix is spread out in 2″ layers and tamped level. The process is repeated until the desired height is reached. Material for the top coat is screened again through 1/8″ mesh. The top coat mixture is hand-troweled and burnished, using just enough water to bond well. After the floor has thoroughly dried, seal with several coats of linseed oil thinned with turpentine.

Earthen plaster: The most beautiful wall finish I’ve ever seen is earth plaster. If you’ve never seen earth plaster before, you may think of dreary brown walls. Do an Internet search for “earth plaster” and you’ll see the amazing results. Because there are many kinds of clay, there’s no limit to the range of colors, textures and special effects. One popular method uses mica in the plaster to create sparkling, brilliant walls.

Earthen plaster is the probably the most user-friendly wall finish. In many cultures women, children and the elderly have done the plaster work for centuries using just hands and basic tools. The key to durable earthen plaster is wide roof overhangs of about 36 inches. Keep rain and snow off the walls and it will last a long time, requiring only minor touchup.

These are just a few ideas to get you started thinking about using natural building materials. Thanks to the Internet, now it’s very easy to learn about these and other low-cost building methods. Additional articles on the above topics are available for free on the author’s websites.

Property to Renovate – How to Reduce the Risk?

There are many properties that are ready to be inhabited there. However, there are many people who are looking for property to renovate for several reasons. Property to renovate is a property that requires renovation before it is suitable to be inhabited or resold. This type of property is usually in demand by realtors or brokers who intend to resell a property. They are familiar with the risks in the property business so that when realtors buy property to renovate, usually a house has gone through a process of analysis and careful calculation to reduce risk.

Behind the considerable risk, Property to renovate also provides a large profit. This investment property will provide benefits if you are able to do a thorough calculation for some severe damage. Maybe you need to budget for the cost of tearing down the ceiling because there are a lot of termites or you need to repair drains that don’t work anymore. In essence, Property to renovate will provide many benefits if you are able to reduce the risk. Now, here are some things you can do to reduce risk:

Consider the location of the property – Even if you have made a major renovation but the property is difficult to reach by the buyer, your business will be paid for a long time. Well, maybe the house will be sold, but you have to wait longer. This might be caused by the property’s location is not strategic. Strategic location will reduce the value of a house. No one is willing to live in a house far from markets, hospitals, schools, airports, and various other public facilities. Think about the location that others want, and then your Property to renovate will be sold easily.

Unique renovation – Most people want to have a unique home because the uniqueness will attract the attention of others including buyers. The uniqueness of a house will also reduce one’s boredom while living; the uniqueness of a house can be done on simple things. Some things you can do to create uniqueness include changing lighting, adding vegetation, unique furniture, exposing raw materials to the walls, adding to the visual richness of the room with different materials, etc. Unique quality can make buyers willing to pay more for a property, especially Property to renovate.

Doing renovations correctly – Doing renovations correctly means that all budgets are allocated according to a pre-planned list. Renovation properly can also be interpreted as maintaining renovation money, unless you really need to make more space or improve the room to increase the sale value. In addition to aligning the budget with needs, renovation must also be adjusted according to government regulations in your country.

Buy and sell in a market cycle – This means you have to do a little research and analysis of the real estate and property market. This is important so that the low price you get can be paid at the highest price after you make a renovation. You may make purchases in a market condition that suffers, but do not rush to sell it if the current market conditions do not support your intentions. To be able to make the right decision is not easy, if you are not observant in conducting market analysis, maybe you can work with an expert. Not only helps in making decisions, he will also make predictions of falling and rising property prices. Remember, all renovations on Property to renovate will be meaningless if you are currently in swings down market cycle.

Those are some of the simple steps to reduce the risk of your Property to renovate. The steps above might be suitable for property buyers who intend to resell a property to renovate. Sticker Printing Your Green Living Message – green living

If going green is important to you, you probably want to spread the word. If you get frustrated when others don’t recycle or they disregard the earth, you probably want to gently remind them that we all share the planet and are equally responsible for ending pollution. Sticker printing your message is one way to kindly get your point across. Remember, you can communicate your thoughts without being offensive or obnoxious. Rarely do people change their minds through insults, but they do change their behavior and opinions as a result of thought-provoking questions or upon hearing personal anecdotes. Many people are well-intentioned, but just uninformed. Some consumers don’t recycle because they’re just too exhausted to separate their trash from their recycling. Still others don’t take the time to sign up for their local recycling service or they don’t want to pay the monthly fee for the recycling collection pick-up. Whatever the reason, you may want to remind your neighbors through sticker printing that recycling, reusing, and recovering is everyone’s responsibility. What will your specific statement be? While there are many preprinted stickers to choose from, you may want to use a custom sticker printing company and come up with your own design. The advantage to preprinted stickers is that their designs are readily identifiable and easy to order online, but the key advantage to developing your own artwork and design is that it communicates your own personal thoughts and may strike a chord with others in your community. A particularly unique message or question can grab attention and interest. You also have to decide where to put your stickers so that they’re the most effective. Some people opt to put their earth-friendly messages right on their curbside recycling bins to “hint” to neighbors that it’s an important weekly activity to remember. Still others choose to design a special sticker and have them printed in bulk, and then distribute them to other similarly inclined friends and neighbors. You can also put them in your office, and of course on your bike or car.Remember, if your audience is people who don’t recycle or take care of the planet, you want to appeal specifically to their hearts and minds. That means that you have to break through their excuses or lack of knowledge. What ideas do you have that will stir up discussion without angering them? It’s completely up to you to decide what kind of sticker to create – that’s what customer sticker printing companies are for. You have freedom of speech, but you want it to be effective freedom of speech. It’s time to bring out your inner marketing genius! If you want to act locally and think globally, you may wish to address a local issue that needs awareness. Is there an irresponsible coal mining company near town that’s destroying the environment and leaving local residents to deal with the aftermath? Perhaps you want to promote local organic farming or responsible farming. Maybe you want to point out the link between childhood asthma and the environment. Whatever you know is a crisis in your neighborhood, it pays to say and do something about it. You may even wish to become a community activist.Sticker printing and displaying your personal message can motivate not only other people, but also propel you to do more. You may wish to think about how you can step up to the plate and innovate new green practices.Of course, going green is not about being perfect. It’s about taking steps everyday toward a healthier planet. You can use sticker printing to show the connection between a better earth and better health for everyone. Create your perfect message today!

Green Living and Our Health – green living

Green living is a popular subject across the globe. It has now become common to hear of green international conferences and green activists. Green living is any effort or action that saves natural resources, reduces carbon foot print or is by itself eco-friendly.There are numerous forms of green living. These include the use of green building materials, green energy sources such as fossil fuels and natural resources, eating of foods that are produced without chemicals and the reuse or recycling of materials.Green living helps ensure that people do not contract diseases associated with reckless lifestyles. In our homes and environment, we are likely to inhale volatile organic compound (voc) gases. The household products one uses emit volatile organic compound gases. The ailments associated with volatile organic compound gases include asthma, allergies and respiratory complications. Pollution in our environment such as fuel and chemical emissions, dust particles, hazardous materials and more also contribute to diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory diseases.Volatile organic compound gases are present in flooring, paints, stains and carpets. Green living health measures help combat the menace of polluted air. It helps to insist on the use of recycled wood products for our doors, tables and furniture. Flooring should be from natural resources such as bamboo or recycled wood. It is advisable to use paints that have low volatile organic compound elements. Recycled glass is good for glass items. One should also make sure that they vacuum the house often to get rid of the volatile organic compound elements absorbed in the furniture.Health and green living go hand in hand. Apart from the health risks in our homes, there are other health concerns outside the house. The depletion of our natural resources is one of the reasons for global warming on earth. Cutting down of trees is one basic example of misuse of natural resources. Deforestation not only contributes to soil erosion, it also leads to the displacement of wild life and extinction of some animal species. Apart from that, chopping of trees disrupts weather patterns and has adverse effects on the air circulated thus affecting health and green living. In the end, the air inhaled is rich in chemical elements that are harmful to human health. The health benefits of green living ensure the air inhaled is pure and safe. Purification of air is possible through an eco-friendly approach to life. Planting of trees is one way of purifying the air. Recycling helps reduce manufacturing practices which are responsible for the chemical emissions released into our atmosphere. Natural energy sources also contribute to reducing the human carbon foot print.Several diseases and ailments can occur to those that reject eco-friendly lifestyles. Respiratory infections come because of exposure to volatile organic compound gases and chemical elements in the air. Asthma and Allergies are common where products used contain fragrances. The emission of chemicals in the atmosphere leads to the shedding away of the Ozone layer. The sun’s ozone layer protects living things from harmful radioactive elements. As it quickly sheds away, the human species is vulnerable to cancer, ageing and other serious afflictions. It is evident that green living is not an over emphasized theory. Eco-friendly solutions reduce water and energy consumption thus saving the environment. The use of solar energy and wind energy helps reduce the depletion of forest and water resources. In essence, green living is all about saving mother earth from a premature extinction.

How Businesses Can Promote Green Living – green living

Minimizing our negative impact on our planet can be a difficult task and it takes a collective effort to save our planet. Green living is not only the task of individuals and households, companies and businesses have a social responsibility of making our planet healthy and sustainable. Businesses shouldn’t make money at the expense of the environment, but rather they too should contribute in promoting a healthy way of life. Saving our planet doesn’t have to cost that much, simple steps can create a large impact on our planet. Businesses can promote green living in a number of ways.Shifting to green living will not only help save the environment but also cut back on some expenses, thereby generating more profit. One simple yet effective way of promoting green living is to lower energy consumption. Fossil fuels and coals are used by power plants to generate electricity. These non-renewable sources of energy are not only getting depleted, but they also produce harmful byproducts like poisonous gases and toxic wastes. Carbon monoxide is one form of gas that destroys earth’s atmosphere and causing a greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases such as carbon monoxide heat up the earth’s surface causing a chain reaction that leads to destructive hurricanes, tornadoes and drought.Switching off unused lights, air-conditioning systems, computers and other electrical devices can significantly lower the energy consumption of your office. This can also mean lower electricity bill and more profit. Green living has a number immediate benefit for people. Utilizing power efficient light bulbs is also another way of cutting back on your energy usage and these bulbs can last longer than traditional fluorescent bulbs.Corporations and business can take things a step higher by utilizing green power. The move towards the use of green energy has been a goal of green living advocates. The benefits and advantages of using green energy are becoming more significant as businesses are experiencing the drawbacks of using traditional power sources. There various ways of acquiring green energy but the most popular is the use of solar energy. A number of companies are already mass producing solar cells and installing these green living alternatives are becoming a trend nowadays. This move towards green living may require some initial investment but this provide huge savings in the future.Businesses that provide vehicles for their employees may opt to use hybrid cars or cars that don’t use gasoline for fuel. These green cars don’t emit poisonous gasses compared to traditional cars running on gasoline. The price of gasoline has continued to increase due to the dwindling supply of crude oil and its huge demand. Shifting to “green cars” can save your company fuel costs.Green living should not only be a trend, but rather the new way of living that should be adapted by both businesses and their employees in an effort to make Earth a healthy place to live in.

Save With Green Technology – green living

The term green technology may conjure images of scientists designing futuristic solar or wind energy equipment. But it is more than that.Technology derives from the Greek word technologia, meaning the systematic treatment of an art. There are many actions you can systematically take each day which may seem low-tech as compared to a hybrid car, but which will save you time and money while improving the health of the world in which we all live.In the process, you may create a green innovation to the job you now perform, or build a new opportunity for yourself in this rapidly growing economic sector. What Is It?According to Green Technology, a non-profit initiative designed to promote sustainability through private sector-public sector cooperation, the primary goals of green technology are:Sustainability: providing for our needs without depleting or harming natural resources or impairing our children’s ability to provide for themselves
Renewable Design: engineering products so they can eventually be reclaimed for later use instead of being thrown out-called “cradle to cradle” design
Source Reduction: changing patterns of production and consumption to reduce waste
Innovation: finding alternatives to unhealthful technologies such as fossil fuel or petrochemicals
Viability: capitalizing on products and activities that benefit health and the environment so they are more quickly adopted, create jobs, and products pricing drops due to greater supply. How Can You Play A Role?Adopt Green Habits. From the list of green living ideas at our personal website below, pick three that you can, and more importantly that you will adopt immediately as a new routine in your life. Remember that technology requires a systematic approach. Stick with whatever you choose, and add others as you are able.
Make a Difference at Work. This can include starting or improving a recycling program, helping to facilitate more energy efficient building features or energy use, transitioning to purchasing practices supporting environmentally sound products or allowing flexible work-at-home scheduling to reduce building space needs and travel costs.
Become an Expert. Educate yourself through web resources, books and seminars or classes. Find out what others in your field of interest are doing to innovate toward green practices and mimic them. Make a proposal to your boss, your school district, residential community or other body that sets forth a goal and how you would oversee its attainment. After one project, you suddenly have a new resume entry or side business.
Fill a Need While Making Money. Often we ask ourselves why someone doesn’t provide a needed service. With the help of Home Based Business Hub your ideas become strategies and an action plan for operating a green business from home.Don’t Green Technologies Cost More? The answer to this depends on how one looks at “cost.” At the dealership, a hybrid Toyota Prius will cost more than a comparably equipped gasoline car. Over its lifetime, however, you will almost certainly recoup the added expense through better fuel efficiency and lower repair rates due to fewer moving parts. Also consider the hidden environmental cost of the higher polluting gasoline car. Part of our taxes goes to government efforts to clean the air, so it follows that we will pay less if we pollute less.On the consumer products side, a concentrated chemical household cleaner will likely be a bit cheaper per ounce than a green version. This has to do with economies of scale and who pays for hidden costs.Until green cleaners get enough viability, or market share, to allow them to be truly mass produced, the mass produced chemical versions will remain cheaper. If you buy the green version, you are inching that company toward being able to offer a lower price to improve its competitive edge. The hidden cost factor is largely environmental protection costs which the green company chooses to pay, but the chemical company does not yet have to pay.An example is production waste. A chemical cleaner company can dispose of waste up to the legally allowable air, water or solid waste limits without cost. The green company typically uses green technology to pollute much less, but at a cost which is passed in part to the consumer.

Green Living – Five Simple Driving Tips That Will Save Gas and Money – green living

Do these five simple things to save gas and money as you develop and greener lifestyle.1: Drive the vehicle with the best gas mileage.Do you own more than one car? When possible, drive the vehicle that gets the best gas mileage to save gas and get the most out of what you spend on transportation fuel.2: Empty your trunk and lighten your loadFor every-day errands, like visiting the grocery store, back-to-school shopping, and trips to the home improvement store, it is convenient to put your purchases in the trunk. But don’t leave stuff in the trunk while you drive to carry out other errands. For every 100 extra pounds in your car, you reduce your gas mileage by as much as 2 percent.Simply unloading the trunk can save you $0.07 per gallon of gas, or $40-50 each year. Or perhaps you are driving a car with a roof rack? Putting cargo on top of your car can be a huge help when taking gear on a vacation. But remember that leaving anything on top of you car will create wind resistance and decrease your gas mileage.3: Keep your tires inflatedPresident Obama took some criticism when he suggested this as an energy saving measure, but he had a point. You should keep all tires inflated to the maximum recommended limit. Check manufacturer’s specifications for maximum tire pressures. This will reduce rolling resistance and save you on gas. Radial tires are the recognized fuel-savers and some newer models are available that promise better fuel economy. The expected improvement ingas mileage form this simple step is about 3%, leading to savings of about $0.11 a gallon. For an average driver, this is worth about $55 to $75 per year.4: Drive steadilyEliminate jack-rabbit starts. Instead, accelerate slowly and smoothly when starting from dead stop. Every time you slow down or speed up unnecessarily it wastes fuel. Also avoid tailgating – the driver in front of you is unpredictable. Not only is it unsafe, but if affects your economy, if he slows down unexpectedly.(The potential drafting effect is just not worth it.) In addition, think ahead when approaching hills. If you accelerate, do it before you reach the hill, not while you’re on it.5: Drive less. It seems obvious, but many people don’t give jumping in the car to go somewhere on a notion a second thought. A great way to save gas and lessen the wear and tear on your vehicle is to combine errands into the fewest number of trips.Turn several shorter trips into one longer, multipurpose trip covering the same distance. You can save time by cutting the overall miles driven, and reduce wear on your car by traveling while your car is warmed-up and operating more efficiently.Bonus tip: Although it may not feel that way, winter is on the way as I write this. During cold weather watch for icicles frozen to car frame. Up to 100 lbs. can be quickly accumulated! Snow and ice left on your car can also cause tremendous wind resistance. Scrape it off before getting on the road this winter.

Conservatives Living the Green Lifestyle? – green living

The penchant toward living a green life has long been touted as being one which is more liberal–more–Democratic in nature. The reality is–that’s not the reality. It’s the liberal who talks about it more, it’s the liberal who will approach you on the street to ask you to donate your dimes for saving the earth, but who is in the trenches, fighting the day to day battle for a better environment and a more safe way of growing our food and meat? The answers just may surprise you. The conservatives that we’ve long proclaimed to be the polluters of an unsuspecting environment may in fact have a few faults we can point out, but the simple truth is that the conservatives aren’t new to green living. They can probably teach us a thing or two about it, if we’re willing to pay attention and learn. They haven’t just jumped on the bandwagon and tried to emulate the more liberal desire to keep the world clean and free of pollutants. In fact, they probably beat us on that bandwagon. The very unpleasant truth is that we who are proponents of green lifestyles need to take a lesson from these folks, many of whom have been living a green life for a hundred years longer than we have.If you grew up in the city you probably aren’t aware that in states like Nebraska, or Iowa, or Arizona, or even Texas, very traditional strongholds of the conservative voters, you’re going to find a great deal more small vehicles, a great deal more clean air, and a vast array of organic farming going on.Typically, those organic farmers, those small bakery owners using only natural ingredients, and composting in the back yard are not the city or suburb dwelling liberals that we’d like to think they are. They are solidly conservative voters who’ve been making their own pesticides out of organic materials for a hundred years. The best compost piles you’re ever going to see, the most organic food you’re every going to eat, the best and most fresh air you will ever breathe, quite typically comes from states that are largely conservative in nature and maybe that’s not an accident. Maybe we’ve all got something to learn from them if we set aside our partisan politics and really get back to nature with these conservative old farmers that we think can’t teach us a thing. The very core of our green living is reduce, reuse, and recycle. Who can teach you more about that than the older folks, conservative folks in your neighborhood who grew their own vegetables and reused their own clothing to produce quilts to warm them or recycled their furniture to a child who didn’t have enough for that first apartment.Older people, farmers, solid rural conservatives, living conservative and frugal lifestyles such as those that Obama declared as bitter and gun toting, are also our first and best way to learn more about reducing and reusing and organic farming. They are the professors in a lifestyle that we all need to learn more about.
